Be Filled

Be Filled

How familiar are you with the Person of the Holy Spirit and the role He plays in the lives of believers? Depending on where and how you worship, the answer to this question can vary. No matter what your experience is regarding the Holy Spirit, the Bible has quite a lot to say about His sanctifying power in the lives of Christians.

In John 14:16 (ESV), Jesus promised His disciples, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.” Jesus didn’t want to leave us without a Teacher, Guide, and Helper when He ascended to the Father in Heaven.  It is more than amazing that Jesus suffered and died in our place, so that believers can be with Him forever in eternity. It is more than enough that God the Father preserved His Holy Word through the centuries, so that we could know Him and know Jesus. But perhaps even greater is that He promised that His Holy Spirit would not only be with us but would dwell within the heart of everyone belonging to Him. He is Emanuel, God with us, our constant companion!

Think about it for just a minute. We literally have God’s presence inside us! He is the Holy Spirit, who equips us with the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control in all who yield to His faithful intervention in our lives. Through His guidance, we grow to be more like Jesus, as we ‘sow to the Spirit’ rather than to the flesh. Because we have free will, it is our choice to follow or ignore His guidance and wise counsel. However, when we choose to obey Him, we are blessed and have peace.

Let us Walk in His Way.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to guide and grow us into people who would bring You glory, as our increasingly surrendered lives reflect and manifest the characteristics of Jesus. Thank You for interceding on our behalf “with groanings too deep for words” Romans 8:26 (ESV). May we be continually filled with Your Spirit, Lord, so that our lives can positively impact others with the truth of Your love and the great gift of salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
