The Polytheism Worldview

The most dominant worldview in human history is the worldview that teaches there is not just one God, but many gods. From the pantheon of gods of the Greek/Roman mythology, to the many gods of Mormonism, to the over 300 million gods of Hinduism, to the present-day pandemic of idolatry in the heart, polytheism is king. Think about it. Everyone, including you, has a God-shaped void in their heart, and everyone, including you, consciously or subconsciously fills that void with something or someone. On the short list of these gods might be money, power, fame, career, religion, and even sex, just to name some. Does this describe you? 

A Google search estimates there are between 10 and 13 million practicing polytheists in the United States. It also states that polytheism has increased by 200% in the last decade.  Beloved, we are engaged in a battle between worldviews: it’s God and His eternal Word versus the world and its godless philosophies! Polytheism stands in stark contrast to God’s own words when He said, in Isaiah 45:5, “I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me.”  The biblical imperative cannot be any clearer: there is only one true God! And, unlike the gods of polytheism, the God of the Bible invites believers into a personal relationship with Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, who died on a cross paying God’s penalty for our sin. He was buried, and he rose from the dead 3 days later.  His resurrection is proof that He is King, not polytheism! Beloved, polytheism has no answer for sin, but the God of the Bible “…demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, “…whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). If your heart is an idol factory, reject polytheism and its impotent gods and fill the God-shaped void in your heart with the all-powerful, all-knowing, sovereign ruler over the heavens and the earth, the one, true, living, God of the Bible, who is mighty to save!
