Believe the Lord!
Do you believe God or do you simply believe in God? There is a massive difference. In Genesis 15:1-6, the Lord promises Abram that he will become a great nation. Abram, who is approximately 85 years old at the time, and childless, asks how can this be since he has no children? The Lord promises him an heir, then takes him outside, tells him to look up to the sky and number the stars, if he can, and says to him, “So shall your offspring be.” In verse 6, it says, “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”
Beloved, to believe someone is to have complete trust in the very fiber of their being. It means when they say something, they are utterly reliable, truthful, and trustworthy. Abram had complete confidence that God was as good as his word, so he took him at his word. If he would have merely believed in God, it wouldn’t have meant nearly as much. Because to believe in God does nothing more than qualify you to become a demon, for, according to James 2:19, even the demons believe in God...and tremble!
Beloved, many people believe in God, that he exists, that he plays a certain role in the world, but they don’t actually believe Him! On the other hand, Abram believed every word God spoke to him, and so he humbled himself and intentionally chose, in his heart, to completely trust Him. That’s the difference between believing God and simply believing in God. Do you believe every word God says to you in the Bible? What role does God’s word play in your marriage, in your finances, in your relationships, in your parenting? Do you believe Jesus died on the cross, paying God’s penalty for your sin, in your place? Have you repented and believed the gospel? You can trust the Lord, because to believe the Lord Jesus is to believe who He is. And according to 1 John 5:20, “He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.” Oh, don’t just believe in Him, believe the Lord!
