Assurance of Salvation

Assurance of Salvation

Have you ever questioned your salvation? If you have, then you are in good company! David, the guy who killed Goliath, the guy who was anointed king by the Prophet Samuel, the guy who wrote many of the Psalms, the guy who was called “a man after God's own heart” by God Himself, yes, that David! Did you know that even he needed assurance from God of his salvation?

Listen to David’s own words, as he was fleeing from Saul, taken from Psalm 35:1, 3, “Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me…Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers! Say to my soul, “I am your salvation!”

It’s as if David was saying, “Lord, if you will just say to my soul, ‘I am your salvation,’ then I will have the courage to fight a thousand giants. But without your words echoing in my soul, my strength flees from me."  David cried out for assurance from God, he even asked God to personally deliver it. He didn't want a priest to say it to him. He didn't want a prophet to say it to him. He didn't want a church creed to say it to him. He wanted God Himself to speak it to him.

Beloved, like David, do you ever cry out to God for assurance of your salvation? The Church can't give it to you. Books can't give it to you. Preachers can't give it to you. Assurance can only come from the pages of God’s word! May the words of the Apostle John, taken from 1 John 5:11-13, echo in your soul: “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” Beloved, God’s word was enough for David, and God’s word is enough for you!
