From the Mailbag
Hello, and welcome to In the Lighthouse: your safe harbor from the storm. This is Daphne Collins, your lighthouse keeper, along with my co-host, the Lady With the Lamp, Melissa Saenz, with another From the Mailbag episode. Last week we opened the first mailbag with a commentary on Part One of “I Saw the Light,” a redemption story, as told to us by Anthony Canales. In Part Two, Anthony shared who it was that first spoke to him about God. (audio excerpt from Episode 1 Part Two) As you heard, Anthony is Melissa’s nephew, so a large part of our discussion was centered on her reaction to his testimony. There’s a big difference when you hear a story from someone you know (let alone family), versus a complete stranger. But, as I indicated last week, we cannot know the impact of a strong testimony on the lives of those going through the same type of storm. That is why we want to hear from you today. You are not alone. Your life is so very important in God’s economy. We’re all connected in this fabric of time, and we need one another to survive. The question is, do you believe? Can you trust what you’re hearing? Well, how do you take that first step of trusting? You can simply begin by emailing me at: TheLighthouse@carrythelightministries.com. Okay, let’s get started!
In our last episode, Melissa and I got together to discuss Episode 1 Part One of “I Saw the Light,” of Anthony’s story. Today, we’re going to continue with Part Two. Many people living with addiction find themselves stuck in a behavioral loop that causes them to fall back into their “go-to” as Anthony called it. Their behaviors are grounded in belief systems formed from childhood experiences or the people that they hung around with. These influences, although toxic, may have been all they knew and were caught up in. But, as we heard from Anthony’s account, behaviors can change, but we must first confront our belief systems and cast aside those idols that caused us to spiral out of control in the first place. Anthony was born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead . . . to an inheritance . . . kept in heaven as explained in 1 Peter 1:3-4. Additionally, the apostle exhorts, “preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance” (1 Peter 1:13-14).
Some parts of this broadcast may not be suitable for younger audiences, therefore I caution adults and parents to use discretion with your children when listening to this episode.
