The Mind of Christ
How can you be of service to someone without expecting something in return?
We live in a world of people consumed with a “self-focused” ambition for generating likes on social media while elevating themselves and their agendas ahead of the interests of others. The mindset of Christ is nothing of self-ambition. The Apostle Paul encourages us to put aside our desires and to look to those around us. We are to value others before ourselves and express a concern for their needs. However, we are not naturally inclined to do this; it is a discipline that can be acquired, intentionally practiced, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus emphasized that the second greatest commandment is “to love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Fulfilling this command requires a humble heart. When we humble ourselves, it enables us to recognize the needs of others more clearly. Jesus was our example of humble servanthood. His life and death on the cross demonstrated a sacrificial selflessness that is difficult for many of us to comprehend. He gave his life so that we could have eternal life. The Apostle Paul urged us to have the mind of Christ. We can only achieve this by abiding in Him, following His example, and looking to the well-being of our neighbor as a natural outpouring of our hearts. This attitude honors God and will bring Him glory.
How have you sought ways to serve others as Christ commanded?
Father God, help me to have the mind of Christ by putting the needs of others before my own. Give me wisdom and discernment in my relationships and bring me opportunities to be a blessing to someone today. Help me to extend a heart of humility and unconditional love to others. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
