Spiritual Motherhood

Titus 2:3-5

Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.

In what ways can you demonstrate godliness to a younger generation?

As women of faith, most of us are familiar with the term “Titus 2 woman.” However, some may not fully comprehend what is meant by a Titus 2 woman. She is a spiritually mature woman who trains younger women in biblical godly living. She is a role model and spiritual mother that can be emulated. Paul urges spiritually mature women to devote time to the Lord by walking prayerfully and fruitfully. These noble women love their husbands, and children and have learned to be respectful, godly, and wise.

It is a relational ministry that involves spending time together and assisting her to navigate life while solidifying her relationship with Christ. This role also teaches her to manage her family and demonstrate self-control, all while exhibiting gentle strength.

Spiritual mothers will pray, love unconditionally, and display transparency. We are to keep a good balance of accountability and love; our lives will speak louder than our words.

These verses refer to intentional discipleship. We are all commanded by Jesus to make disciples. The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20 gives this command for us to obey. A spiritually mature woman of God will have experience walking by the Spirit to obey this command given by Jesus before he left this world. Are you that woman?

Is there someone the Lord has placed on your heart to disciple?

Why is it essential to disciple younger people in serving God and each other?

Father God, thank you for bringing spiritual mothers into my life who have inspired me to reflect the attributes of your son, Jesus. As I mature in my faith, help me be more like a “Titus 2 woman” to train a younger generation of disciples. Please give me a heart of humility and a teachable spirit. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
