Never Alone

Romans 8:26-27

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God.

What do you do when you seek God but are uncertain about what to pray for?

Have you ever experienced a time when you didn’t know what to pray or felt so broken you couldn’t articulate the words? This scripture brings great hope and encouragement to the believer. When we find ourselves in these circumstances, the Holy Spirit, our helper, intercedes on our behalf. Through our groaning and tears, he goes to the Father and advocates for us. We often assume we know what we need when we go to God with our supplications. However, we are not the best judge of God’s perfect will. It is liberating that we don’t need to verbalize an ideal prayer, and we can rely on the Spirit's divine intercession.

We are never alone; the Holy Spirit aids us in times of distress and uncertainty. Though we physically cannot see the Holy Spirit, we can be confident that he is with us. Jesus promised us in John 14:16-17 that he would send his Spirit as our helper. The groanings come from the depths of our hearts and are driven by our weaknesses, but the Holy Spirit comes alongside us in these moments. He intercedes on our behalf according to God’s will and meets us in our vulnerability. Furthermore, he prays for precise life situations to magnify and glorify our Father in Heaven. We can rest assured and trust that He will guide and lead us throughout our lifetime.

In your time of prayer, what areas in your life can you ask the Holy Spirit to help?

How can you persevere in obedience to God’s will for your life?

Father God, thank you for your continued help and faithfulness. I am grateful that the Holy Spirit prays on my behalf when unsure what to pray. I acknowledge the evidence of your power and love all around me. Please continue to lead and guide me through your Spirit to fulfill your perfect will for my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
