The Battle is the Lord’s

Exodus 14:13-14

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

How has the Lord fought on your behalf?

Moses spoke these encouraging words to the Israelites as they fled Pharaoh’s army, racing toward them at the shore of the Red Sea. They stood transfixed and full of fear, hearing the rapidly approaching Egyptian chariots as they drew near, ready to strike. They were trapped by the vast army behind them and the Red Sea in front of them. They blamed Moses for their precarious position and for bringing them out of Egypt to die. However, the route Moses led them was ordained by God. Amid their panic and distress, he reassured them that God would fight for them. The Israelites were instructed to be still, obey God, and yield control of their situation.

Have you ever experienced a time in your life when situations left you feeling defeated?  One of the privileges of being a believer is that we have Almighty God on our side. We don't have to walk this earth alone and rely on our own strength. We must submit to a position of faith and rely on His power and timing. He will fight our battles.

God made a way for the Israelites; he parted the Red Sea to make a way of escape and annihilated every one of their enemies. As we go through difficult seasons, let us not forget God’s power, blessings, and deliverance. He is faithful. Recall the times he carried you through whatever you were facing. We can rest in the stillness of the presence of God. He will renew our strength and grant us the wisdom to meet any challenges. Like Moses, we can be confident in His sovereignty. Every adverse situation generates an opportunity for our faith to grow and for God to receive all glory and honor.

Why do we sometimes believe that our plan is better than God’s?

How can we reflect on God’s promises and character to willingly submit to his will?

Father God, I thank you for your promises and faithfulness. I am grateful that you go before me to fight my battles. Please forgive me when I become anxious and take my eyes off you. As you fight on my behalf, help me to stand steadfast in your word, and help me to remain still and obedient. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
