Who’s in Charge?

Who’s in Charge?

Have you been walking with Christ for so long that your choices, decisions, and needs are addressed more by force of habit than faith? It happened to me as I gradually eroded my focus on the truth that we must walk by faith and not by sight. I subconsciously put myself in the driver’s seat, instead of Jesus! While good habits are beneficial, they also encourage us not to simply ‘go through the motions’ but to walk with the Lord, believing that He is with us, listens to us, and has a plan to guide us through each day.

So what’s the remedy for the subtle erosion of our dependence on the Lord as we push His authority to the side, and assume His rightful position of directing our steps? One thing I’ve found to effectively ‘re-boot’ my submission and obedience to God’s wise and good authority in my life, is to refresh my memory of who God actually is; that He is God and I am not. He knows all, sees all, is all powerful, all loving, merciful, wise, kind, and good. So why would I choose to go my own way instead of waiting for the Lord’s leading in all situations?

One reason is that this side of Heaven, our sinful nature of living for self, can still rear its ugly head. But God has given His creation free will, as opposed to making us His automatons. He allows us to choose to follow His wise way instead of our limited human way of walking with Him through life. But it’s our choice. The question, as always, will be, “Who’s in charge?”

Let us Walk in His Way.

Dear Heavenly Father, please help us surrender our wills to your will for our lives. Help us get a good glimpse of who you really are, and come to a better understanding that, as our Creator, you might have a better plan for our lives than we could ever dream of or imagine. You are God, and we are not. Let Thy will be done, forever and always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
