A Light of Purity
A Light of Purity
Recently, several women from my church were asked to give their one-word definition for the word purity. Answers ranged from cleansed, innocent, and white, to fresh, unstained, and holiness. I think my answer might have been the word light. Why would that be a question asked of women at my church?
I guess it may be because purity matters to God. We are encouraged to conduct ourselves in a manner “worthy of the gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27). But what does that look like? In practical terms, we can apply the exhortation in Philippians 4:8 to “think about” whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. But how can we do that? How can our lives reflect these things we are encouraged to think about?
The world we live in compels us to want more stuff, to fight for all that we deserve, to seek our own advantage, and to be focused on our pleasure and entertainment. Yet God promises us an abundant life if we follow His plan for our lives rather than our own. But what’s in it for us if we aim for purity in our minds, our hearts, and our actions? Jesus promises us in His Sermon on the Mount that if we are pure in heart, then we will see God! That sounds pretty amazing to me. How about you?
Let us Walk in His Way:
Dear Lord, thank You for providing the way for us to be cleansed of all things that do not please You. Because of Your death and resurrection, we can now surrender our wills to Your Lordship and leading. By Your Spirit, we can be purified and made lights for Your glory. Help us follow Your example of purity, so that we may become more like You. In Your Holy Name, we pray. Amen.
