Be a Child of God
What’s the difference between being created in the image of God (a theological truth that applies to every human being) and becoming His child? Some who do not understand the gospel of Jesus Christ might incorrectly believe that because Jesus died on the cross for all humanity, we will automatically go to Heaven when we die. But in that belief, they miss the central point of the gospel. To be a true child of God, there must have been a moment in our lives when we turned from running our own lives, being our own little “g” god, and truly became a child of the King of kings and LORD of lords. Is this your experience?
Can you recall that turning point in your own life? Mine came back in 1976, when I found myself crying tears of true repentance for my unbelief as I read the powerful words from John 14:6, where Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Do you believe this? Jesus is “not wishing that any should perish,” but not everyone will choose to submit their will to Him. Without surrendering control of our lives to Him, Jesus will not become our Lord. And believe me, without Him being Lord, He is not our Savior!
His death paid for all sin – past, present, and future – but if we did not receive the gift of eternal life to become a child of God, He is NOT our Savior. Today, if you are not sure of your status in God’s kingdom, and yet you greatly desire to become a Christian, here’s what you can do. Surrender your mind, heart, spirit, emotions, and will to the One who created you. The One who loved you enough to suffer and die for you, so that you could follow Him all of your days. You will increasingly shed yourself of fleshly motivations in favor of being led by His wonderful Holy Spirit, by the Word of His truth, and by worshiping Him in the presence of a solid Body of true believers.
Let us Walk in His Way.
Dear Lord, please reveal to us where we stand with You, regarding our identity. Draw us to Your salvation by showing why we must turn from living by our own way. Help us repent of our sin, and give us the courage to ask You to be Lord and Savior of our lives. Our prayer is to dwell with You, Lord, when we pass from this world into eternity. In Jesus’ saving Name, we pray. Amen.
