Unmerited Favor
Unmerited Favor
When it comes to the word GRACE, have you ever thought, “I just can’t see it, and what’s the big deal about it anyway?” The word ‘GRACE’ comes from the Greek word “Charis,” which means favor, blessing, or kindness. Because the Bible teaches that the hearts of all men are evil and because God’s favor cannot be bought, earned, worked for, or be born into, God’s GRACE is defined as His unmerited favor toward those who are unworthy and undeserving.
The Bible describes God’s unmerited favor as a gift offered to everyone who will receive it. In fact, it’s such a significant gift that it baffles the mind and overwhelms the heart because it forgives, it pardons, it liberates, and it saves by connecting you with the divine; clothing you with the power of God; promising you every attribute of God for your defense; helping you to defy the hosts of hell and allowing you to stand in triumph over your enemies. It’s the core message of the gospel and the heartbeat of the Christian faith. Praise God!
Nobody deserves God’s grace, but God has given it to all people anyway. In Titus 2:11, it says, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people…” The word appeared conveys the idea of being made known; it’s light shining into the darkness. It was God sending His Son into the world to turn the light on.
Beloved, it is through God’s GRACE, His unmerited favor, that you can be saved by faith in Jesus Christ. It is the gift of God, and it includes reconciliation with God, and a place in heaven if you will repent of your sin and follow Jesus. With God’s grace the light is on, without God’s grace you remain in the dark, in fact, you lose everything! Can you see it now?
