The Shoes of Peace
The Armor of God: The Shoes of Peace
Are you a bedroom soldier, or are you a battlefront soldier? Maybe you wear bedroom shoes and give the appearance of being at rest, and not at war? If you are a Christian, what kind of shoes do you wear?
In Ephesians 6:10-18, the Apostle Paul is describing the armor of God that the believer is to wear before going into battle. In verse 15, he states, “For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” In the armor of God, the shoes of peace directly correlate to the shoes of the Roman soldier. These shoes provide peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ, and they enable the believer to walk in peace through the ups and downs of life. The long spikes on the soles of the shoes provide firm footing, making it easier for the soldier of Christ to stand their ground. These spikes are also used for stomping on and obliterating their enemy in battle.
Your ability to walk in peace is entirely dependent on whether or not God’s word is the first and foremost priority in your life. When the word of God has preeminence, the peace of God stands guard over your heart and mind, refusing entrance to the cares and worries of this life. But if you get out of the word, it’s only a matter of time before you lose that sense of peace, and it’s replaced by anxieties, cares, worries, and helplessness.
Beloved, when you put on the shoes of peace, you are declaring to the forces of evil that no matter what you see or hear, you are at peace with God, you are planted firmly in Christ, God’s word is preeminent in your life, and you are resting totally and completely on the peace of God that transcends all understanding. As a battlefront soldier, PUT ON your shoes!
