The Breastplate of Righteousness
The Armor of God: The Breastplate of Righteousness
If you are a Christian, did you know the devil wants to hurt you? In fact, according to John 10:10, he not only wants to hurt you, he wants “to steal, kill, and destroy” you. One of the ways he accomplishes this is by constantly telling you that you are not righteous and you are of no value to God or to anyone!
In Ephesians 6:10-18, the Apostle Paul is describing the armor of God that the believer is to wear before going into battle. In verse 14, he tells us to “put on the breastplate of righteousness.” This is absolutely a necessary piece of God’s armor because without it, these slanderous accusations from the evil one can penetrate our minds and emotions, causing us to habitually walk in condemnation, guilt, and failure. Christians who don’t know they have been made righteous in Christ are easy prey.
With the breastplate of righteousness firmly in place, you know that God has made you righteous because of Jesus. No words of condemnation, no false allegations, and no guilty thoughts can penetrate your heart or lodge in your mind. Your ability to walk in the knowledge that God has made you righteous in Christ hinges entirely on the centrality of God’s word in your life. If you get out of the word, it’s only a matter of time before you lose that wonderful sense of righteousness.
Beloved, when Jesus died on the cross, He freely took your sins upon Himself, and in exchange, He freely gives you His righteousness. Now God always sees you through the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)! Praise God! With the breastplate of righteousness firmly in place, you don’t have to believe the lying threats of the evil one anymore, because in Christ, you are the righteousness of God! Hallelujah!
