The Postmodern Worldview
In the graveyards of godless worldviews, postmodernism is king. It affirms and embraces uncertainty, anarchy, chaos, and chance. It says “truth” is an illusion, and we must make do on our own in a world based on tolerance. It says there is no absolute truth; therefore, whatever you say is true is not necessarily true for anyone else. Postmodernism is a self-styled spirituality where you get to pick and choose what sounds good to you; it’s creating a god in your own image!
In the absence of truth, people are seeking ‘god’ without boundaries and without definition. Why? Because the biblical parameters for faith and practice don’t exist anymore. The result is the encouragement of alternative lifestyles, spiritism, occultism, male and female socially created categories, to name a few. The most frightening aspect of postmodernism is not that it is being widely embraced by the secular world, but that whole segments of the Christian church are now emerging with this worldview rooted in their foundation. A recent Barna Survey found that 72% of Americans believe there is no such thing as absolute truth, and 53% of those who claim there is no such thing as absolute truth identify as born-again Christians. GOD FORBID!
Beloved, we are engaged in a battle between worldviews: it’s God and His eternal Word versus the world and its godless philosophies. Postmodernists have tried to write the obituary on the Creator of the universe, but He is the King who reigns supreme over all the earth. “Pilot asked Jesus, ‘What is truth?’” (John 18:38). Pilate asked the wrong question. It’s not, “What is truth?” it’s “Who is truth?” Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6)! In the graveyard of godless worldviews, don’t let postmodernism be your tombstone. Reject this godless philosophy by embracing the words, the ways, and the will of Jesus Christ, and He will resurrect you from the dead into everlasting life. And that’s the absolute truth!
