Praying For The Lost
Praying For The Lost
While millions watch on the edge of their seats, scientists hurl men into space year after year. Yet, every day before and every day since these rockets were launched into space, thousands of souls are launched into a Christless eternity and are in orbit forever in the regions of the damned. Can you imagine the eternal misery of the lost?
Just as Paul felt for his Israeli brethren, in Romans 10:1, may this be our prayer for all people: “Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.”
According to Scripture, the lost are spiritually blind, captive to Satan, condemned, helpless, hopeless, and bound for hell. What is the answer? God must open their eyes. God must soften their hearts. God must give them understanding. And God must make them spiritually alive so they can see and believe. And so, we plead to God on their behalf. We petition their cause. We take their names before the Throne of Grace begging God to save them.
Beloved, where are the intercessors who sacrifice sleep, convenience, relationship, appetite, and even their health to boldly approach the Throne of Grace on behalf of the souls of men? Where are the prayer warriors who “say NO to ungodliness and worldly passions and live self-controlled, upright lives” (Titus 2:12) knowing that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16)?
Beloved, we must talk to God about men before we talk to men about God! Seeking to see the lost saved is empty, fruitless, and dry without godly living and fervent prayer! When was the last time you determined to stand in the gap and cry out to Jesus on behalf of the souls of men? Next year is not ours. Tomorrow may be too late. Unless we repent now, unless we return and fire up the prayer alters now, woe unto us at the judgment.
