Obedient or Hypocrite?

Obedient or Hypocrite?

Are you a follower of Jesus?  If you are His disciple, does your walk match your talk or are there contradictions between what you say and what you do?  I’ll ask you the question again, is Jesus truly your Master?  Does your life embody His teachings, His passion, His worship, His work, and His mission?  An unknown poet once said, “There is a chasm that divides between what the tongue speaks and where the heart resides. Empty words are like the wind upon the sea, leaving only echoes where commitment ought to be!”

In Luke 6:46 (NIV), Jesus questions the hypocrisy of those who are religious but fail to follow His teachings. He asks, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”  Beloved, those who offer Jesus the emptiness of mere lip service will surely fall, and according to verse 49, great will be their ruin!

Listen to this inscription found at the Lübeck Cathedral in Germany…it is a poignant reminder to us that one day we all will give an account of our lives when we meet Jesus, face to face.  When that day comes, will He say to you: “You call Me Master and obey me not, You call Me Light and see Me not, You call Me Way and walk not, You call Me Life and desire Me not, You call Me wise and follow Me not, You call Me fair and love Me not, You call Me rich and ask Me not, You call Me eternal and seek Me not, You call Me gracious and trust Me not, You call Me noble and serve Me not, You call Me mighty and honor Me not, You call Me just and fear Me not, If I condemn you, blame me not.”
