Eternity
Eternity
“Have you ever wondered: “How long is eternity?” The following explanation might help a little. Count all of the leaves that have ever grown from every plant and tree since creation. Multiply that huge number times 10,000. If every leaf was one year, that would be a staggering number! But it still isn't close enough to the concept of eternity. Now, multiply every hair that has ever grown on every person times 10,000. And multiply times 10,000 every grain of sand from every beach and seashore throughout the whole world. To that, multiply times 10,000 every raindrop and snowflake that has ever fallen to the earth. But that still is too small in number! To that, multiply times 10,000 every molecule of dust that has ever floated in the air, and 10,000 times every star and all the galaxies of the universe. But even then, if you add that immeasurably large number together, and that number would be years as we know it now—that could only be one second, the first second in eternity. In other words, you face a very, very, very long time beyond the grave, which is so long we cannot even come close to humanly comprehending it.
Jesus says that we will spend all of that time either in unquenchable and raging fire which was originally prepared for the devil and his angels, or in a paradise kingdom called “Heaven,” where love, joy, peace, and purity will continue on for eternity in the presence of God. Spurgeon once said, “Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity.” Do you live your life with eternity in mind? The Bible tells us in John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.” Beloved, eternity is a very, very, very long time. Today, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. This is Laine Wilder for Carry the Light Ministries, bringing you Insights From an Elder.
