Cultural Christianity

Cultural Christianity

Would you believe me if I told you the #1 religion in America is Cultural Christianity? What is that? A Cultural Christian pursues the God they want instead of the God who is. They want the God they underline in their Bibles without wanting the rest of Him. They’ve reserved a seat for Jesus on Sundays, but not in their everydays. These are the kind of people whose lives lay claim to spirituality without surrender, conviction without accountability, and the believer’s crown without the Savior’s cross. Did you know Paul warned Timothy to avoid these kinds of people?  In 2 Timothy 3:5, he describes these people as those who “…act religious, but… reject the power that could make them godly.” Then he said, “Stay away from people like that!” Why?  Because he knew the religion of Cultural Christianity will lead you straight to hell!

If you say you are a Christian, which Jesus do you follow? One who never disagrees with you?  Maybe one who gives you a license to sin, because in the end, you will be forgiven anyway? Or the real Jesus, the One who shouts above the mountaintops, “Follow Me” (Matthew 4:19)? This Jesus is God incarnate. He didn’t say, “I’ll show you a path.” He said, “I am the Way.” He didn’t offer advice; He offered Himself, by taking your place on the cross, paying God’s penalty for your sin. His resurrection was God’s exclamation point, announcing to the world that JESUS IS LORD! Hallelujah!

Beloved, God’s call to you isn’t a call to be religious; He’s calling you to repentance and a life-changing belief in Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God; He’s calling you to “follow” Him! Are you a Cultural Christian or a Biblical Christian? Examine yourself today! Otherwise, you may find yourself standing on that last day at the Great White Throne Judgment crying, “Lord, Lord,” only to hear Him say, “...I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness”  (Matthew 7:21-23).
