We all have our part as members of His Body.
Is it just me, or have you been feeling like you’re living during a pivotal moment in history that will impact our Western way of life? There have been many events in this nation's history that significantly changed the trajectory of the Western world. Specifically, these involved great wars that claimed the lives of countless souls. Whether our country was embroiled in a global conflict that included other nations or fought on our soil, the price was always the blood of the men who died for a deeply held ideal that was grounded in their Judeo-Christian worldview. In John 15:13, NASB), Jesus gave an example of the kind of love we are to have for one another. “Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends.” This agape love Jesus commanded of us has been relegated to the dustbin of history. What’s replaced it is selfishness, pride, and the idol of comfort. When considering the country's state during such a time as this are we aware of the pervasive darkness that’s been overtaking our culture and influencing our children? The State of the Union is in turmoil, and the country is divided on various issues that cause people to become tribal and gather in their enclaves while attacking one another across social media. Do they think that this will end well? This divide is intentional and is an effective weapon sent by the enemy of our souls. Our battle is a spiritual one – therefore, not easily detected. To be equipped with eyes to see and ears to hear, you must be actively seeking the will of the Lord over your comforts and desires. Only then will your eyes be opened to the truth and the wisdom given for your discernment. And we know that wisdom does not always come from older people. God equips any age – any generation with his wisdom so they can see the truth revealed and make their decisions accordingly. I firmly believe this and have witnessed firsthand how God speaks through the wisdom of youth. Furthermore, our biblical and secular histories more than adequately supply us with examples of young men and women who boldly spoke up and made their voices heard. It is no different today, although people have become fearful of speaking their minds because of censorship and weaponization of our government against perceived threats to their authority. We’ve become less free and more fearful. My concern has been for the future of this country and whether it will be the country I always knew. What country will we leave for our grandchildren? I am a Baby Boomer. That is, I was born near the end of the post-World War II and Korean War years of the 20th century and before America entered into the Vietnam conflict in 1965. The cultural issues then are strikingly similar to how they are now in this country. The events that shaped the culture at that time also affected the future laws enacted and the politics of power. As I alluded at the opening, we stand at the precipice of change, and again, it is as ideological as it was before. We must cast our vote this year for leaders who will advance their ideological perspective. Our vote will determine whose ideology will prevail. A significant voting block of Americans, who comprise 68 million of the US population, has now entered the fray. This socially recognized cohort is named Gen Z. Its members are described as being “environmentally conscious, inclusive and accepting of others, and extremely politically aware,” which makes them more inclined to make wise decisions as it applies to the state of this country. However, the thing that will always be our guiding light, no matter the generation we hail from, is our worldview, which will overtly advance our ideology. My guest today In the Lighthouse is Eden Beck, a 17-year-old senior who came to discuss her views on the current culture and influences in the world shaping it. Eden’s Gen Z perspective on current events and how her faith impacts her views of the world is refreshingly similar to my own. How is it possible for someone two generations apart from my own to share a similar perspective of the essentials that determine the way I vote? Is it possible that commonality is derived from a person’s worldview? Perhaps this path will lead us back to the command of Jesus to love one another.
Okay, let’s get started!
