Strength in our Weakness

2 Corinthians 12:9

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Can you recall a challenging situation that you were able to overcome with God’s help?

Have you heard the cliché, “God won’t give you more than you can handle?” This statement is a fallacy and is not biblically accurate. The Book of Corinthians features the excessive physical, mental, and spiritual hardships endured by the Apostle Paul. However, despite all he experienced, he persevered by relying on the Lord’s strength rather than his own. Just as the Lord sustained Paul, he will provide the same for us as we depend on and seek him in our weaknesses. No matter what tests or trials we may go through, we have God's promise that his grace will be more than adequate for us.

In times of challenge, we may feel weak or powerless, but it is during these times that we become cognizant of our need for God’s help. Our new understanding enables us to let go of our independence and completely depend on him. When we relinquish our control, he will give us the strength to endure by the power of His Spirit. Because of the Holy Spirit, we remain steadfast and strong in the Lord. Our prayers should be for strength and perseverance to help us through whatever dilemma we are facing. God promises that through him we will have victory and peace.

What areas of weakness in your life require strengthening?

How might God turn your weakness into strength?

Heavenly Father, thank you for your sufficient grace. Help me to discern how your power is made perfect in my weakness. Help me to rejoice despite my inabilities, so that your greatness may be exemplified in my life for your glory. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
