I Am Who He Says I Am

2 Corinthians 5:17-18, 21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ  reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Are you seeking validation from the world or resting in Jesus' righteousness?

If you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the old you no longer exists. Who do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you notice all the imperfections? Or do you see yourself the way God sees you?

One of humanity's most sought-after pursuits is discovering their identity. Their identity is what makes them unique and feel significant. People seek their identity in their careers, sexual orientation, on social media, or in their financial status. The rapidly changing culture will inevitably clash with the follower of Jesus Christ. Many of us look to the world through temporary sources and the approval of others to justify our choices. By doing this, we will only encounter despair and discontentment. Anything we attempt to substitute in place of God will leave us empty and yearning. Apart from Christ, all hope is lost.

But the good news is that Jesus came to bore our sins so that, through reconciliation, the wrongs we have done can be made right, before God. When we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, our identity ensures, a greater purpose and hope. When God sees us, he views us as righteous, holy, and citizens of his kingdom. We are the recipients of his redemption and grace, sources that are not temporary but eternal.

Grasping this truth is liberating because we can’t earn these free gifts, they are given because of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to repent, turn from your sins, and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He is the only one who can meet all your needs and has a perfect plan for your life. Your identity and eternal destination are forever secured when you look to Jesus.

How does this verse influence your understanding of God's grace and redemption?

How might recognizing your identity in Christ transform the way you view yourself and interact with others?

Father God, thank you for sacrificing your only son so that I can be forgiven and reconciled to you. I am grateful that I was made new when I accepted you as my Lord and Savior. I no longer need to search for validation from anything or anyone else because you have made me whole. I pray that those still searching will be led to the cross and realize you are the answer their hearts have longed for. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
