He Will Protect You
Psalm 91:9-13
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.”
He Will Protect You
Hi, this is Cherese Collins with An Encouraging Message. When you think of the word refuge, what comes to mind? Is it a person, a place, or a thing? Can you confidently say that your refuge, your safe haven, will always protect you and shelter you – no matter what trouble comes your way? For me, there's only one answer. I can only speak of my absolute and trustworthy Lord over all—Jesus, who is my Rock and my Shelter in times of storm. David's words in Psalm 91:9-13 (NIV) perfectly describe Him. He assures that if you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the cobra and the lion; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.”
Many of us can’t make it through the day without some sort of drama beating us into a corner. We’re eventually worn down and begin to respond out of fear. Poor choices are made, and the consequences render us weary and fearful. We can’t fight the unforeseen because we aren’t omniscient—only God is! We can’t be there to help others if we’re stuck in our own mess because we aren’t omnipresent—only God is! This is the guarantee that David offers to the ones who call on the name of the Lord and make Him their dwelling place. David encourages us to abide in Him—He Will Protect You! The Lord wants us to come and seek shelter. Within the poetic language of the psalm, you will read that He promises to “cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day” (Psalm 91:4-5, NIV).
So, if you’re wondering why I choose Jesus as my refuge, all you need to do is read His character reference from one of the most notable people found in the Bible—David, the lowly shepherd, who was later chosen by God to be king over Israel. If refuge is what you are seeking, the Bible is a great book to consult.
