From Rejection to Rescue

From Rejection to Rescue

Is there anything more hurtful than being rejected? Whether it’s an old wound from being passed over for a part in the school play or that coveted spot on the team? Or perhaps more recently being demoted at work by your boss, abandoned by your spouse or even ghosted by a best friend? Rejection often hurts deeply and causes us to question our worth, as well as wonder if God really does have our best interest at heart.

When praying for a friend’s granddaughter a month ago, a new perspective came to me: What if some experiences of rejection serve to rescue us from a situation that we aren’t even aware of, something that could actually cause us harm? What if God allows us to be hurt by others in order to move us away from a destructive situation? In this instance, the young woman was very upset from being given up for adoption, when the birth parents chose to keep her other siblings. How painful is that?! As I prayed, I had the sense that perhaps, ultimately, the hurting girl may have been truly rescued from a harmful situation that might not have been healthy for her to endure. What if God allowed the pain felt from being given up, to ensure that she would experience the joy of unconditional love, support and opportunity?

Can you think of a time where hurt or rejection in your life turned out to have been a rescue for your greater good? I personally have a few huge examples in my own life. I hope you can look back at those moments and see them as providential blessings.

Let us Walk in His Way.

Dear Heavenly Father, Your apostle Paul said in Roman 8:28 that You make “all things work together for good, for those who are called” according to Your purpose. What an encouraging lens through which to view our heartaches, hurts and perceived failures. May we become more conscious of Your ‘RESCUE’ efforts on our behalf, in the midst of our struggles. We love You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
