Be Available

Be Available

Have you ever wondered how God is using you to fulfill His Great Commission here on Earth? If you don’t have a ready answer, welcome to the club! Whenever I doubt my value in being useful to God, I am reminded of a quote from Neil Maxwell that says, “God does not begin by asking us about our ability, but only about our availability, and if we then prove our dependability, He will increase our capability.”

God has said in His Word that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, that He loves us unconditionally, and that there’s not one thing we can do to make Him love us any more or any less than He does at this moment. So how do we keep this truth a reality during those moments of insecurity when feelings of “not good enough” overcome our thoughts? I have found some help to keep me going during these times, and I hope it will help you to do the same.

I learned from a wise and faithful pastor who discipled me for many years that we are God’s ambassadors here on Earth. If we are called to be on assignment from Him, then we must have a mindset that says, “Here I am, send me!” This is me saying to God each morning, “Lord, I am available for Your use today. Let me not ignore those You send who will cross my path. May You find me faithful as I listen for Your still small voice to guide me through my day. Be glorified in whatever way You have use for me today.” It’s amazing how many unexpected encounters I have had when I start my day this way. The wise early “church father,” Augustine, once said, “Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not.”

Let us Walk in His Way.

Dear Lord, may our true self-confidence come from the reality that You have a plan and a purpose for each of us to fulfill here on Earth, until You call us home. May we be available for Your will each day, as we trust You alone to lead, guide, and equip us with everything we need to carry out Your plans according to Your purpose. You cause us to draw ever closer to You, Lord, and apart from You, we can do nothing. But Your word reminds us that we can do ALL things through Jesus, who gives us strength. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
