Are You Prepared for The Day of the Lord?

What is The Day of the Lord?

For centuries, theologians have speculated and theorized about the anticipated return of Jesus Christ to Earth. Opinions have been postulated and documented as to the “times and the epochs” according to man’s understanding of God’s purpose under heaven. The Holy Scriptures speak of the return of the Lord in many of the Old Testament prophetic books, as well as in the letters of Peter and Paul. And regarding his imminent return, Jesus himself speaks of it in the Gospels. He told his disciples that he must “go and prepare a place” for them but would “come back” to take them to be with him. Jesus did not, however, tell them when he would return. Instead, he told them to be ready because he would return “soon.” The Greek word tachu, when translated, means “quickly” or “without unnecessary delay.”  In 2 Peter 3:9, the apostle reminds us, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” The readiness Jesus spoke about was to forewarn them of a period of Tribulation that would precede The Day of the Lord, which would announce his return to Earth. According to the Prophet Daniel, this period of Tribulation will be seventy weeks. It was announced by the Angel Gabriel concerning the nation of Israel and God’s purpose for their part in his eternal plan. The Tribulation will be a time marked by specific worldwide events that will become more and more unbearable to humanity. It will usher in The Great Tribulation or The Day of the Lord, a three-and-a-half-year period of unspeakable calamity before Jesus returns. The seventy weeks of tribulation is a guaranteed future event that has not happened yet but is to come. This will be a time of testing the faithfulness of the followers of Jesus and bringing to repentance and faith God’s chosen people – the Jews. The Day of the Lord is not a particular day but a time when God will act decisively to demonstrate his sovereignty and establish his reign once and for all. It includes the coming of the Lord Jesus in the clouds, and he will renovate the current cosmos with fire and establish his millennial kingdom where righteousness dwells. But how do we know when the end times are upon us? What signs will warn of the coming Tribulation? These signs will be made evident to you, the one who is a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. These will include a significant increase of lawlessness in the world, you will hear of wars and rumors of war, will see and hear of many natural disasters, there will be a purposeful increase in the persecution of Christian believers, but they will persevere, and the gospel message will be spread worldwide. In addition to the spread of the gospel will come false prophets and deceivers to undermine its advancement for salvation in Jesus Christ. The Christian saint is therefore encouraged to be ready and to stand firm; your King will return soon!
