You Haven’t Seen Anything Yet!
The Pillars of the Church - You Haven’t Seen Anything Yet!
Do you ever think, “Can anything good ever come out of my life?” Introducing Nathaniel.
In John 1:44-50, when Nathaniel is told by Philip that Jesus is from Nazareth, he has no interest in meeting him. “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” he asks. Finally, when he does meet Him, Jesus greets him as if he has known him for years. Startled that Jesus somehow is familiar with him and has insight into his character, Nathaniel asks, “How do you know me?” Jesus replies, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Jesus was telling Nathaniel, “I know more about you than you think. I know where you were, I knew what you were doing, and I know who you are.” Understanding Jesus’ claims to deity, Nathaniel confesses, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus replies, “You’ve become a believer simply because I say I saw you one day sitting under the fig tree? You haven’t seen anything yet!”
Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Can anything good come out of your situation? Can anything good come out of your illness? Can anything good come out of your brokenness? No! But something great can, because if you believe in Jesus, Jesus wants you to know that you haven’t seen anything yet! Nathaniel wasn’t expecting anything good, but he left experiencing something great! He became one of the twelve Apostles and a pillar in the early Church. Beloved, when you believe you haven’t seen anything yet, you will be on the edge of your seat, eager to see what God has in store for your situation. When you believe you haven’t seen anything yet, you will be eager to be in the Word, to spend time with Jesus, and to serve others. Oh, today, repent of your sin and believe Jesus died on the cross paying the Father’s penalty for your sin, and then get your seatbelt on because, guess what, you haven’t seen anything yet!
