The Good News
In Proverbs 25:25 King Solomon said, “Like cold water to a weary soul, So is good news from a distant land.” Beloved, it is my privilege to introduce you to thirst-quenching GOOD NEWS. I introduce you to “The Gospel” the “good news” of Jesus Christ…the story of his birth as the Son of God, his sinless life as a man; his cruel death on a cross, in our place, paying God’s penalty for our sin, and, most importantly, his physical resurrection from the dead; the Father’s exclamation point that He accepted Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. And since the word "Gospel” in the Bible means “GOOD NEWS,” isn’t that good news?
Listen to what Paul said, in Galatians 1:11-12, about the gospel he preached, “I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.” Beloved, the "Gospel” did not come from an angel speaking on behalf of God. It did not come from a man speaking on behalf of an angel. It was not discovered written on stones hidden in a cave. It wasn’t a story derived from the stars or legend passed down from generation to generation. NO! This divine, otherworldly message from a distant land was a message Paul received directly from Jesus Christ to pass on to you and to me. Now, isn’t that good news?
The good news of the “Gospel” is this: God loves YOU so much He sent Jesus to die on a cross, in YOUR place, paying God’s penalty for YOUR sin. He was buried and rose from the dead three days later, for YOU! It is this message that “…is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). Beloved, this divine, otherworldly message from a distant land, from Jesus to you, is not thirst-quenching GOOD NEWS until you drink it. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved…” (Acts 16:31). That’s GOOD NEWS!
