Pillar, Fraud, or Both?

The Pillars of the Church - Pillar, Fraud, or Both?

Did you know that you can sit under sound biblical teaching, spend time with believers, even participate in ministry, and not know Jesus? Being a Christian, even a pillar in the church, and loving Jesus are two entirely different things.

In John 13:18-25, during the last supper, when Jesus told his disciples that one of them was going to betray him, John, “leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” Now, it’s easy to think of Judas as some dark-eyed villain, but when Jesus said that one of His disciples was going to betray Him, they all said, “Lord, is it I?” None of them said, “Lord, is it Judas?”  Here was a man who, for three years, was an eyewitness to the blind receiving their sight, the crippled gaining the use of their limbs, the demon-possessed bound by chains, made completely whole, the dead raised to life. No one had ever seen greater things! Yet, all of the disciples thought Judas was a pillar, but he was a fraud.

Pillars of the church are people who model humility, uphold biblical truth, and serve with a sincere heart. They willingly shoulder responsibilities and support leadership in difficult times. They are sensitive to the Spirit and generous with their time, talent, and treasures. They love the presence of God. They love to serve God. They love the word of God, and they love the Church of God. Does this describe you?

Beloved, for three years Judas was exposed to the truth, but he never acted on it. He had everyone fooled but God. Listen to me when I say to you today: there is grave danger when you are exposed to truth and never act on it! Are you a fraud, a pillar, or both? DO YOU KNOW JESUS? Today, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
