Pilgrims & Sojourners: Trusting God to the Very End

Pilgrims & Sojourners: Trusting God to the Very End

Have you ever been trampled by someone…your boss, a coworker, maybe even someone you thought was your friend?  In the book of Hebrews, the Jewish believers were enduring intense persecution from non-believing Jews, so much so that some were even considering rejecting their faith in Christ and returning to Judaism. To encourage these “trampled” Christians, the writer of Hebrews, in chapter 11, reflects on the lives of the heroes and heroines of the faith who faithfully trusted God to the very end of their lives.

Hebrews 11:13,16 tells us, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth . . . now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God…has prepared a city for them.”  These trampled believers all died with unfulfilled dreams, but because God’s promises were deeply engraved on their hearts, to their last breath, they died trusting that God would keep His word to them.

Beloved, has life trampled you down, even causing you to reconsider your decision to follow Jesus? Pilgrims and Sojourners of old would tell you to trust God to the very end because they knew that God says what He means and means what He says! Listen to Jesus’s own words in John 14:1-2, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me…I go to prepare a place for you.” It’s a place where you will see and embrace the Savior who paid God’s price for your redemption. It’s a place where all the “trampling’s” of life will forever be forgotten. And it’s home for Pilgrims and Sojourners who love Jesus! Beloved, when you take your last breath, you can trust God to the very end because God keeps His promises! Praise the Lord!
