Mary: Trusting God with the Unknown

Mary: Trusting God with the Unknown

If someone were to ask you, “How do I trust God in my life when I don’t know what the future holds? How would you answer them? Luke 1:26-38 tells the story of the angel Gabriel appearing before Mary and telling her she has been chosen by God to give birth to the Son of God.  Imagine what must have been racing through her mind: “I am betrothed to Joseph, how in the world am I going to explain this to him, or to my parents, or to everyone in the village? What are people going to say about me? Yet, in verse 38, she tells Gabriel, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Facing a situation with immense uncertainty and unknown consequences, Mary chose to trust God’s will for her. By doing so, she opened herself up to gossip, to judgment, to ridicule, and shame, not just for her and her family, but also for Joseph. She knew what saying yes would cost, but she still did it, because a trusting faith says, “God, I don’t know how this is all going to work out, but I choose to trust you in this moment.”

Beloved, trusting God with the unknown is all about surrendering your will to God’s will, even when the path ahead is unclear. Is God asking something of you? Maybe, to speak to someone about their soul? Or, to increase your financial giving? Maybe He wants you to pack up and move to another city and state? Whatever God is asking of you, surrender to His will and believe in His goodness. Learn from Mary and trust God, even when you don’t understand what lies ahead. God always blesses a trusting faith! Look at how Mary’s decision to trust God turned out; she birthed salvation into the world! Hallelujah!
