Peace on Earth: Stories of Christmas
Peace on Earth: Stories of Christmas
Hello! Welcome to this special Christmas edition of In the Lighthouse, your safe harbor from the storm. I’m Daphne Collins, the Lighthouse Keeper and host for our time together. For many around the world, the Christmas season is the one we look forward to the most. There’s this feeling that comes over people, and a noticeable change in the way we greet one another happens. Christmas inspires a desire to express goodwill to everyone we come into contact with. It’s something impossible to manufacture on our own because of the worries of this world. But God so loved this world that He sent His one and only Son to redeem us from our fallen natures. And because of His redeeming work, to anyone who chooses to believe in God and His Son, Jesus, we are made righteous and become heirs to an eternity with Jesus in heaven. Presently, Jesus is in heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. But before leaving this world, He sent the Holy Spirit to sanctify and guide us. It is the Holy Spirit who lives in the hearts of all believers, and His presence ensures this feeling of peace and goodwill in abundance at this time of year. Therefore, since we have this feeling of goodwill, why don’t you and I tuck in and enjoy our Christmas Eve together? The winter wind is gusting outside, and there’s a sparkly sheen of ice covering the sidewalks. I thought I’d sit here snug and cozy and stare into the glowing embers of the crackling fire. Hmm….It’s lovely, and so is this cup of spiced cider warming me inside. Yes… good… so, we have a special treat in store for you. Since we’re going to enjoy some comfort and joy, I looked for some more Christmas stories to read to you. Well, actually, they’ll be read to you by my friend, Ali, who just happened to stop by the Lighthouse the other day to record them for this Christmas Eve episode, which we’ve entitled “Peace on Earth: Stories of Christmas.” She will read six selected stories and a couple of poems written by past and present authors. The whole purpose is to ring in the holiday cheer and to reflect on the actual reason for the season: the birth of Jesus. So, since the weather outside is frightful and the fire is so delightful, let’s you and I cozy up and enjoy a little peace on earth, and some heartwarming stories of Christmas.
Okay, let’s get started!
Ali Frantz, narrator
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are” (1 John 3:1).
