Walking in His Steps

The Discipleship Ministry of Jesus of Nazareth

“Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture” Psalm 100:3.

Welcome to Walking in His Steps your instructions for keeping with the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. This interactive discipleship learning program is designed to “equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” Ephesians 4:12-14. You will engage in courses that have been developed to build your knowledge and skills; but more importantly, to get your feet moving.

For three years, the chosen twelve disciples of Jesus and those who subsequently followed, listened to their Rabbi teach about the kingdom of heaven (or kingdom of God). During His earthly ministry, Jesus of Nazareth taught both publicly and privately—often in parables—which are allegorical stories intended to provide spiritual truth. He proclaimed to those listening, that the kingdom of God was near – (Matthew 4:17), and He, as their Messiah, was sent by the Father to usher it in. Our primary focus of this kingdom was to look to Jesus as prophet, priest, and king – “the radiance of the glory of God” (Hebrews 1:1-3). Jesus told them that He came to fulfill the words of the prophets and the Law (Matthew 5:17), but taught that one could not be righteous by simply keeping the letter of the Law (e.g., Pharisees and Jewish leadership), through outward practices. The apostle Paul reminds us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith . . . it is a gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” Ephesians 2:8-9.

Indeed, Jesus taught multitudes that all their attempts at outward righteousness were fruitless—that we are to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind . . . [and] love your neighbor as yourself” Matthew 22:37-39. This is the greatest commandment that Jesus summarized for them, thereby showing them that they did not need to be burdened by the legalistic rules placed upon them by the Scribes and Pharisees (Matthew 11:28-30). In those three years of His ministry, the disciples followed Him, listened to His teaching, and learned all that they could from Jesus. They heard and witnessed much from Him as the apostle John indicated in his gospel (John 20:30-31).

Before He left this world, Jesus said to His former disciples—now apostles, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” Matthew 28:18-20. To this Great Commission, the apostles went forth to share the gospel, and apply the teaching of Jesus to the infant Church; and we are commanded to do the same. Although we are willing, some of us do not know how to begin. These courses may be taken at any time and your place will be saved until you have completed each section.  Moreover, these courses will build your biblical knowledge and help you understand what it means to be a “fisher of men,” and to obey the Great Commission by Walking in His Steps.
