Thankful for God’s Love

How has God demonstrated his love towards you lately?

This verse is part of a song by David, who exhorted everyone to praise God. The Book of Chronicles was written shortly after Israel's exile from the promised land. In it, David expressed his gratitude for God's love and goodness, which is his character. He encouraged them to reflect on the marvelous works God accomplished and to remember his covenants.

When we reflect on all we are thankful for, nothing compares to the abundance of God's love. His love is unconditional, deep, and so vast that it's unfathomable for our human minds to comprehend. His love for us inspires him to act on our behalf. He listens to our cries with a heart of compassion. The most incredible display of his love for us was the sacrifice of his only son, Jesus, so we could obtain eternal salvation. The Bible tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16, ESV). He redeemed us from death and eternal separation for those willing to accept it. His love is infinite and should compel us to have a grateful heart.

As we approach Thanksgiving, remember that giving thanks is not a solitary day; it should be a daily attitude of our hearts. Expressing gratitude should go beyond just an utterance of words and move us beyond ourselves. As we embrace the promises of God’s love, may it be a constant overflow through our words and actions.

How has God's love compelled you and transformed your life?

What practices can help you cultivate a heart of gratitude?

Father God, thank you for your goodness and love. Thank you for sending your only son to die on the cross so that I can have salvation and experience your love through eternity. Thank you for blessings – seen and unseen. Help us cultivate a grateful heart. I pray that those who have not received you as their Lord and Savior will experience the depth of your love. May it be revealed to them in a personal and profound way. As believers, may your love continue transforming our lives and deepen our intimacy with you. It is in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
