A Perfect Peace
Isaiah 26:3-4
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock…”
A Perfect Peace
Hi! This is Cherese Collins with An Encouraging Message. Have you ever been around someone who never seems to sit still? She’s constantly on the move, whether it's meeting people, traveling somewhere, or just planning her next steps. When you sit across from her at lunch, you suddenly notice that she’s checked out of the conversation because her mind just switched over to planning the next task. This behavior can be exhausting for them, and also for the one observing their lack of stillness. I have great respect for anyone who’s industrious, but, I also pray that they take time to be still with the Lord.
In his “Song of the Redeemed Judah,” the prophet Isaiah extols the favor God gives to those who trust in Him. “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock…” (Isaiah 26:3-4).
Peace can be elusive to anyone whose mind is preoccupied with everything but the Lord. We’ve witnessed burnout in those who can’t seem to slow down and step off the Wheel of Life. It’s possible that some of us need to truly heed the words of Jesus when he says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). Some people may feel that they need permission to rest from their activities and find peace in stillness. If this resonates with you, I invite you to find rest in the Lord and to find solace and rejuvenation in His presence.
I encourage you today to pause and reflect on your current state. Have you been feeling overwhelmed and drained for days now? Does it seem like your to-do list is never-ending? If so, it’s time to grant yourself the much-needed respite and intentionally seek Perfect Peace, a peace that can only be found by spending time with the Lord. This pause, this initial seeking, will bring you a sense of relief and hope. Let this be your joy, today!
