God is our Refuge . . . Don’t Refuse Him!
God is our Refuge . . . Don’t Refuse Him!
Have you ever felt completely lost, alone, or forsaken? Most of us have at one time or another. In those moments of desperation, when you are crying out for help, to whom do you direct your cry? In John 6:68, the apostle replied when Jesus asked Peter if he would desert Him as others had done, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.”
If we send out cries from our mouths to an unknown recipient, it’s like shooting an arrow at what appears to be no perceived target. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus provides the perfect target for our cries. He instructed us to come to Him when we are “weary and heavy-laden,” promising that He will give us rest. He commands us over and over again to seek first His kingdom, to be still and to know that He is God, to trust in Him, to wait in silence for Him, and to be strong and of good courage because He is with us! Wouldn’t you agree that these words from Scripture encourage us to “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you,” as it says in James 4:8? If so, why do we refuse Him?
He is the God of all comfort, power, mercy, and love. He has the solution to every problem we could ever have, and the ability and willingness to walk with us through trials…to the other side, where peace is restored. He loves us unconditionally and is on duty 24/7, no matter when we cry out to Him. He hears us. He knows what we need and He wants us to depend on Him for our very breath.
So, why not try that out right NOW as we Walk in His Way?
Dear Lord Jesus, You promised to be close to the brokenhearted, to quiet us with Your love, to be with us even in the valley of the shadow of death. Please teach us to trust You more as our refuge and strength and as a very present help in times of trouble. Please fill us with Your peace which passes all understanding as it guards our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Help us cling to Your promises because they are true and You always keep them. In Jesus’ almighty Name, we pray, Amen.
