Shine Your Light
How are you being an example of Jesus to others?
When Jesus delivered the sermon on the Mount, he used “light” to describe the godliness we are to display. If we proclaim Christ as our Lord and Savior, our mission is to be a living testimony. The empowerment from the Holy Spirit enables us to be radiant examples of God’s love and truth. Jesus embodied love, selflessness, kindness, compassion, and sacrifice throughout his life. God's purpose for humanity is to be changed to the image of his Son.
Many people are being deceived into spiritual darkness. The bible warns that people will become lovers of themselves and indulge in the things of the world. (2 Timothy 3:2) We become a light when we display the fruits of the Spirit evident in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23) and share the gospel of Jesus with others. People are not used to open acts of kindness. The difference will become very apparent when we respond counterintuitively to what they’re familiar with. They will distinguish the evidence of Christ through our attitude and how we live. Our actions will bring hope and draw them closer to Jesus. Because we choose to shine our light, they will see and learn that Jesus is the only one who can redeem and transform us.
He is our only hope to pull us out of the darkness of this world, and guide us on the right path. Jesus is the light that illuminates our lives; may we use every opportunity to shine for his glory.
Have you been inspired by the goodness shown by another? How did their kindness spur you into action?
Are you boldly sharing the gospel with people you encounter?
Father God, help me to be a light for others to see. Empower me to be bold and share the gospel with those I encounter. I lift in prayer all who are lost and living in spiritual darkness. I ask that you bring someone into their life who can share the gospel and bring them hope. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
