Sanctified Thoughts

How can you turn negative thoughts into excellent ones?

Our minds have tremendous power; our thoughts can weigh us down, or they can lift us. Countless ideas enter our minds throughout the day and are influenced by what we watch on TV and social media, what we listen to, where we go, and who we associate ourselves with. As these thoughts enter our minds, we all have a choice to determine which will take root in our hearts. In this verse, the Apostle Paul provides a practical assessment to filter them. We are to exclude anything that does not fall within these classifications if we desire to attain peace from God.

The apostle also encouraged the Philippians to practice them; he accentuated his life as an example for them to imitate. With everything being so accessible nowadays, establishing healthy parameters is more vital.  Entertaining unwholesome thoughts will quickly take us down a path God did not intend for us.

Although we are all vulnerable, God gave us a new mind when we came to him. However, it is our responsibility as believers to diligently guard it. What we allow into our minds will shape our beliefs and actions; therefore, we must focus on God’s sovereignty and love for us. By pursuing a positive, God-honoring mindset, we will experience the promise of God's peace.

What thoughts are stealing your peace?

How can you be more diligent about filtering your thinking?

Father God, help my thoughts to be in alignment with your word. When unwholesome thinking invades my mind, please help me submit it to you. Allow me to put positive ideas into action in a way that pleases and honors you. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
