Incomprehensible Peace
What anxieties do you have that are hindering your peace?
There is so much turmoil in the world that it is easy to become overwhelmed and anxious. The Apostle Paul provided instruction and practical application to the Philippian church on how to overcome anxiety by turning their worries over to God. His universal message recommends to us that we must first, cast off worry and not let our minds be consumed by it. Then, we are to ask God for what we need and thank him for what he has already done for us. Finally, we simply relax knowing that because he loves us, God will allow things to work out for our good according to his plan. In addition, God’s peace will overwhelm us while we wait.
We know that worry can be debilitating because we’re attempting to maintain control of something outside of our control. When we are anxious, we demonstrate a lack of faith. The battle is actually over Who is sovereign in our lives. When we pray to God and ask with thanksgiving, we must also surrender our control to receive his incomprehensible peace. If we trust God’s sovereignty and provision for our lives, worry would be non-existent. Whether God grants our requests exactly the way we asked does not negate the fact that he is sovereign. His timing is perfect, and his grace is sufficient. The best way to overcome our anxiety is to pray with a heart of gratitude.
What scriptures can you meditate on to express gratitude and defeat anxious thoughts?
How have you reflected on God’s faithfulness in your past?
Thank you, Father God, for listening to my prayers and for calming my anxiety. Thank you for the promises in your word that are a reminder of your profound love and care for me. Help me to trust you through every circumstance that I encounter and help me to surrender control. Thank you for your sovereignty and provision for my life. I long to have your peace and live in a way that honors you. It is in Jesus’ name that I pray. Amen.
